Jewels fit for a Princess & Marchioness,
The Collection of Princess Victoria of Hesse,
later Marchioness of Milford Haven
This talk will delve into the intriguing world of Princess Victoria of Hesse, Grandmother of the late Prince Philip. Her jewellery collection included an array of outstanding pieces, no doubt to compete with the jewellery her sisters were to enjoy wearing when they married into the Russian Imperial Family and became, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia and Grand Duchess Elisabeth Feodorovna of Russia.
Born in the Tapestry Room at Windsor Castle in 1863, Princess Victoria of Hesse, the granddaughter of Queen Victoria, was destined to be well educated and fascinated in archaeology and geology, but her life was also full of tragedy due to family illnesses and unexpected deaths. Victoria married Prince Louis of Battenberg in 1884. In 1917 they renounced their German titles and became known as Louis and Victoria Mountbatten as well as taking the title Marquess and Marchioness of Milford Haven.
A talk packed with intrigue, glamour and family jewels – one not to be missed.
