The jewellery of Van Cleef & Arpels brings extra glamour to the fashion of the early C20th.  Attracting a wealthy and stylish clientèle was the key to Van Cleef & Arpels’s success when they opened their shop in Place Vendôme. Our first talk on Van Cleef & Arpels reflects on their formative years when they were established in 1906 to the end of the Art Deco Period. We will consider the influence of India and the Orient on their designs and the significance of the Tomb of Tutankhamun.

From the Mystery Set™ so loved by the Duchess of Windsor, which set gemstones off in an exceptional way, to the acquisition of the ‘Princie’ Diamond in 1960, gemstones have been at the centre of all Van Cleef & Arpels designs. Our second talk on Van Cleef & Arpels will uncover the exquisite gemstones acquired over time by Van Cleef & Arpels and delve into those who wore them. A Feast of jewels awaits!

Norman Hartnell – Adorable Designs

From Royalty to Movie Stars, Norman Hartnell dressed the best. This talk will look at the dresses he made and how they were accessorised with fabulous jewels, for such Royalty as Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret and glamourous ladies such as Lady Bridget Poulett, Merle Oberon and Marlene Dietrich, to name but a few. More glamour awaits!

Lectures are individually priced at £47and include tea or coffee on arrival and a complimentary glass of fizz and sandwich lunch after the Talk.

The Gallery doors will open between 11am and 11.15am and the Talk will commence at 11.30am
