This talk will contrast the majestic wealth of the monarchy with the thrilling work of contemporary designers such as Pablo Picasso, who transformed precious metals and raw materials into explosive avant-garde pieces that challenged the very definition of luxury in Spain and beyond.

Diamonds, Sacrifice & Splendour: The Secret History of the Prussian Jewels

This talk delves into a vanished Empire showcasing the breathtaking jewellery of the House of Hohenzollern, many pieces of which have survived and are now worn by European Royalty. We will discover how gold was given up to help fund the war against Napoleon and was replaced by Iron work, which, against all odds, became more valuable and prestigious than gold in the jewellery world. The mysteries of hidden jewels will also be uncovered as we discover how royal heirlooms were protected from looting and destruction and hidden in the most unlikely of places.

‘Divas & Jewels’:

The Glamour of Opera’s Greatest Jewellery Designer – Corbella

To complement the ‘Divas & Jewels’ exhibition at the Museo del Gioiello in Vicenza, this talk will showcase the work of the Milanese theatre supplier Corbella whose jewellery was worn by legendary opera singers such as Rosa Raisa, Renata Tebaldi and Maria Callas. Corbella’s work is jaw dropping and when mixed with backstage tales and the energy of these amazing divas, provides a talk that will be full of glamour and not to be missed.

 

Lectures are individually priced at £47and include tea or coffee on arrival and a complimentary glass of fizz and sandwich lunch after the Talk.

The Gallery doors will open between 11am and 11.15am and the Talk will commence at 11.30am
