Contemporary jewellery has often been the appreciation of many royals and in the first of our talks on the history of Royal Jewellery we will look at the work of jewellers which have been patronised by the royal family in the 21st Century. These will include Kiki McDonough, Robinson Pelham, Shaun Leane, Monica Vinader and of course Zara Tindall’s own range of jewellery. The Goldsmith’s Secret: Unearthing the Legendary Cheapside Hoard
Discover the world’s most spectacular cache of Elizabethan and Jacobean jewellery – the legendary Cheapside Hoard. Unearthed by chance by a group of labourers in London in 1912, this breath-taking treasure trove of over 500 pieces had lain buried beneath a cellar floor for nearly three centuries, likely hidden away by a wealthy goldsmith-jeweller at the outbreak of the English Civil War.
From dazzling Colombian emeralds and Indian diamonds to intricate enamelled rings, Byzantine cameos, and a unique watch set inside a single emerald, the Hoard offers an unparalleled time capsule of global trade, craftsmanship, and Renaissance fashion. This talk explores the dramatic discovery, the secret history of its concealment, and the sheer artistry of a collection that remains the most important archaeological find of its kind in history.
Lectures are individually priced at £47* and include tea or coffee on arrival and a complimentary glass of fizz and sandwich lunch after the Talk.
The Gallery doors will open between 11am and 11.15am and the Talk will commence at 11.30am
